Domaine des Sablonettes – Chri,Jo et Jé Ménard – Côteaux-du-Layon
Christine and Joel have been making wine for 20 years in the heart of the botrytised chenin region. The also produce dry whites and thirst-quenching cabernet franc, grolleau and gamayover a surface of 13 hectares. They have been using biodynamics methods and their vinification is “au naturel”, sometimes waiting years before releasing a wine deemed unstable. Their chenin parcel are located on the left bank of the Layon, and they show that it also makes great wines!
Vin de France – “ Le P’tit Blanc” Chenin Blanc Sec 2019
Vineyard: parcels around Rablay
Grape variety: Chenin Blanc 10-15 years old
Terroir: Schist
Winemaking: hand harvested and fermentation is in stainless steel tanks. Bottled in spring.
This is a natural wine without added yeasts and with very little, or no added sulphites. This leads to wines with great purity of fruit but might also lead to more outspoken aromas. Beware that this style might be different from what you are used to when drinking conventional wines.
