De Château Smith Haut-Lafitte Grand Cru Classé de Graves is samengesteld uit 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc en 2% Petit Verdot rmet veroudering in 60% nieuwe barriques en 40% procent in 2e jaars barriques. Bij aanvang is de zeer diep paars-zwart gekleurde 2018 Smith Haut Lafitte een beetje verlegen om te beginnen. Met wat lucht en walsen ontvouwt het zich heel langzaam en onthult prachtige aroma's van viooltjes, rode rozen, kirsch, zwarte kersen en aalbessen, voordat het plaats maakt voor een diepe kern van warme zwarte bessen, bramen, zoethout en kaneelstokje met nuances van gedroogde munt, oranjebloesem en kruidnagel. In de mond is de wijn vol van smaak en is zowel elegant als krachtig met in de mond bedekt met rode en zwarte vruchten terwijl tonnen minerale, bloemige en hartige tonen worden onthuld, omlijst door voortreffelijk fijnkorrelige tannines en gewaagde frisheid met een zeer lange afdronk.
