Château La Nerthe ligt in een magisch decor, bezaaid met wijngaarden, eeuwenoude olijfbomen en truffeleiken. Hier vind je de natuur in haar puurste vorm en komt haar kracht tot rust. De typische rolkeien zijn het geheim van de wijngaarden waarin knoestige wijnranken in traditionele gobeletvorm groeien. Op deze eeuwenoude bodem staan de dertien druivenrassen die toegestaan zijn in de appellation Châteauneuf-duPape. Château La Nerthe is al decennia lang in handen van de Richard familie. Het familiebedrijf ontstond in de jaren 30 als blend en bottelbedrijf voor de Parijse horeca. in 1950 werd het eerste domein aangekocht in de zuidelijke Rhone. Vandaag de dag bezit de Richard familie ruim 600 hectare wijngaard verdeeld over 3 toonaangevende Franse wijngebieden; Rhône, Beaujolais en Bordeaux. Vandaag de dag is de gehele productie op Château La Nerthe biologisch gecertificeerd.
De druiven worden met de hand geplukt en op tafel gesorteerd. Aan het einde worden de wijnen in eikenhouten vaten gerijpt voor de malolactische gisting. Wanneer deze tweede gisting is voltooid, wordt de wijn 12 maanden gerijpt in grote vaten. Het bottelen vindt zes maanden later plaats.
Robert Parker (93+/100): "The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Cadettes is showing a bit more oak than the 2015 did last year, but I also tasted it a couple of months earlier in its evolution, so I expect the wine will continue to soak up the wood as it goes forward. Right now, the blend of 52% Grenache, 38% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre is toasty and cedary, marked by vanilla and baking spices. Some cola and dark berry notes emerge with airing, and it appears that the wine has the requisite weight and richness to carry the 28% new barriques used in its élevage. Give it another couple of years and drink it over the next two decades."
