Omschrijving
De familie Duffau-Lagarrosse bezit dit domein sinds 1847. Al negen generaties lang houden de roem van deze 7 hectare aan wijngaarden in stand. Hierbij worden modernisering en innovatie niet geschuwd. Vijf minuten na beluchting komen intense fruitaroma's vrij van zwarte kersen zwarte pruimen en kruiden. De aanzet heeft een medium body met tonen van marmelade witte peper en rood fruit. Een mooie spanning wordt opgebouwd met een crescendo van smaken en een twist van bittere kersen bij de afdronk. Deze complexe Saint-Emilion blijft je intrigeren! 95 % Merlot en 5% Cabernet Franc. De wijngaard ligt op het hoger gelegen gedeelte van Saint-Emilion met een zuidelijke/zuidwestelijke expositie. Deze expositie is zeer gunstig door de instraling van de zon de waterhuishouding en de luchtstroming. Bodemsoort van leem en kalksteen. De wijnstokken zijn tussen de 35 en 40 jaar oud. De snelle oogst met de hand wordt gevolgd door een eerste strenge selectie in de wijngaard en een tweede in de chai na ontsteling. De Merlot druiven worden als eerste geoogst terwijl de Cabernets nog enkele dagen blijven rijpen.

Now in bottle, it has developed a quite compelling bouquet, very pure with black cherries, iodine, potpourri and crushed violets. The intensity is very impressive. The palate is medium-bodied with almost rigid tannin. This is a masculine wine, perhaps one that has closed down after bottle since it was so expressive from barrel. It is much more linear than I was expecting, even with a touch of hardness on the finish. It is a rather enigmatic Saint Emilion, one tricky to pin down at the moment. Hopefully more flesh will surface with bottle age and just balance out that strict finish. Let's see where this will go. Certainly I would not broach this for a few years."
