Recent gekozen door de wijncritici tot één van de tien beste Chenin Blanc wijnen van Zuid-Afrika.Krachtig en complex in de mond, met een elegante, goed geïntegreerde kruidige houttoon.
The Bernard Series heeft zijn naam te danken aan Bernard Podlashuk, de wijnmaker die in de Kaap gold als een soort ‘tovenaar’, omdat hij niet tevreden was tot de wijn helemaal perfect was en helemaal naar zijn zin. Chenin blanc heeft, na de Loire, in Zuid-Afrika zijn tweede thuis. Er staan dan ook mooie oude stokken, die helaas nogal eens worden gerooid omdat er zo weinig druiven vanaf komen. Zonde, want het levert prachtige witte wijnen op met een uitzonderlijke diepgang en kracht, zoals deze ‘old vine’ Chenin blanc.

Robert Parker (90/100): "Medium straw-colored, the 2020 The Bernard Series Old Vine Chenin Blanc opens with fresh aromas of yellow apple, lemon pastry cream, sautéed almonds, wax melon and nuances of oak spices. Medium-bodied, the Chenin Blanc has succulent acidity with a textural mouthfeel and balanced structure before showing a touch of lees in the way of brioche flavors. The wine concludes with a delightful finish that brings me back for more."
